“BORN BY THE RIVER:
THE MAGIC OF SAM COOKE”
A tribute to the music of the
legendary SAM COOKE
by Tony Henry
“We had a tremendous program for the adults... Tony had the older women in the audience swaying with his moving songs - original and some old tunes from Sam Cook. ...
I am well pleased with his personal appearance, song selection and the way he captivated the audience as he spoke about his beginning in the industry. Some could identify with his heart felt songs, especially the one entitled 'Lil Birdy", and others just loved the smoothes of his voice. ......Thank you for having such a charming presenter.
.Easy on the eyes, charming as a snake and spiritual.”
-J. Crawford, Acres Homes Public Library, ( 832 ) 393-1700

Songwriter and performer Sam Cooke was one of the most popular and influential black singers to emerge in the late '50s, successfully to synthesize a blend of gospel music and secular themes and provided the early foundation of soul music.
Cooke's pure, clear vocals were widely imitated, and his suave, sophisticated image set the style of soul crooners for the next decade.
In this tribute to Sam Cook, Tony employs his gorgeous voice to Cook’s style then molds it to fit his presence and personality.
